July’s Newsletter!

Happy July everyone!

It’s been hot here in Southern Vermont, and I’ve been dreaming about building a stock tank pool… we’ve been staying cool by just keeping all the doors and windows shut on the really hot days, and running a few small air conditioners: One for the studio, and one on the 3rd floor. The plants are loving the heat and rain we’ve been having, and our little yard and neighborhood is just full of life. I built a little pond for my goldfish last year, and it’s turned into an oasis for the birds. All of this year’s robins seem to have found the pond, where they hop around in the plantings around it looking for bugs, and take turns bathing at the shallow end of the pond.

Last night on our evening dog walk we passed a Linden tree in full bloom. The fragrance hit us a full block before we saw it, and floated in the air for much of our walk. On our walk around our pretty densely populated neighborhood, we saw the neighborhood cats sleeping in their favorite shade spots, as well as a cottontail rabbit and a healthy young skunk! Bunny the Studio Dog walked past both of them without noticing, as she was busy pulling to look for cats, or sniffing all the amazing sniffeys at the edge of the sidewalk. It was pretty idyllic and I felt very grateful to be walking hand in hand with Rich, with Bunny in tow, as we observed and remarked upon all the beautiful things growing in everybody’s garden, always keeping an eye out for a potential new colorway.

If you follow me on social media, you’ll see our monthly trips up to Vinalhaven, our favorite island community in Maine. Some day I hope to spend summers there, but for the time being it’s monthly trips and we’re making the most of each one of them. I love the slower pace of life, and the openness and genuineness of the people there. There is much inspiration on the island. I typically design my monthly LYS club colorways a month in advance, but last month I found the perfect Botany colorway for December!

This December will mark the 10 year anniversary of Round Mountain Fibers. I am so proud of what I’ve accomplished. I have come a long way since I impulsively quit my job and holed up in my one car garage turned studio, credit cards in hand, determined to start my own business dyeing fiber and yarn in colors inspired by birds. Now, as I work on a NEW Featured Collection for 2026 that includes my favorite colorways of all time, I have over 1,000 colorways to choose from! A few years ago I started keeping a miniskein of every colorway, and hope to have an exhibit some day, complete with swatches! You can purchase ALL of these colorways through our website at www.roundmountainfibers.com (excludes the last 6 months of our LYS Exclusive club colors)!

August LYS Exclusive Club colors are posted!

Our Yarn Tasting Sampler includes 7 skeins in colorways from 7 of our collections on all 7 of our bases! We will chose from what we have in stock, so it will be a random assortment. Each bundle will contain a 100g skein from each of our collections: Ornithology, Entomology, Botany, Aquatic, Geology, Herpetology, and Mammalogy.

Stay cool, and make sure you take the time to smell the flowers, eat yummy things, hug your friends, and go for refreshing dips in the water! Here’s Bunny and I, cooling off after a hot day at one of our favorite swimming holes. Hmm… is that a colorway?

Hugs,
Monica MacNeille and #bunnythestudiodog
